Fright night fun - Halloween around the world

Halloween is nearly upon us, and a whole host of gruesome events are taking place all over the world to celebrate this most ghoulish of evenings. Here are some of the scariest and silliest.


Ghost Ship

Celebrate Halloween the scariest way possible. Get onboard the Cutty Sark, the historic tea clipper moored in a dry dock in Greenwich, and go on a candlelit ghost tour to hear some scary tales. The classic 1931 horror movie Dracula is also being screened under the ship for this special Halloween event during which shots of whiskey will be served to warm off the chills.

Monster Bash

Amsterdamers always like to indulge in Halloween – they have a three-day Halloween festival here that includes an especially frightful edition of the Friday Night roller skate, an all-night horror movie marathon in the beautiful Pathé Tuschinski, a themed dinner event at a mystery location and a kid’s party and movie event in collaboration with cinekid. It all culminates in a costume party whose theme this year is monster bash.

Halloween Parade

The world’s largest Halloween parade, New York’s Village Halloween Parade, takes place in Greenwich Village and is often cited as the city’s greatest night of the year. Lou Reed even wrote a song about it. There are some 50 bands due to play live at the 2016 event at which thousands of New Yorkers will once again turn out in outlandish DIY costumes. Indeed, only those dressed up in costume are welcome to participate.

Halloween has inspired the ultimate Florida Keys bash – Fantasy Fest, a non-stop carnival that runs for a week and culminates in a parade at which costumed revelers on lavishly-decorated floats entertain tens of thousands of spectators. This year’s theme is political voodoo & ballot box barbarians.

Celebrate Halloween in the haunted Hong Kong Disneyland. This is the best and most authentic Halloween celebration in Hong Kong. The Halloween attractions typically include the Main Street Graves Academy, a Cursed Jungle and the Revenge of the Headless Horseman at Adventureland.
