Malta tips for families
Malta is the perfect island for families with children, as children are generally welcome in restaurants. Malta is also a relatively small island, so take the opportunity to visit lots of places while you’re there.
The Rogers family’s top tips:
The beach promenade from Sliema to St. Julian’s
Take a stroll along the Mediterranean Sea, past old people sat on benches, children playing, and lots of joggers on the long beach promenade. Sunbathe on the rocks or enjoy a Cisk (Maltese beer) at one of the many little outdoor cafes. Take your time. There are some great children’s playgrounds in the area between Sliema and St Julian’s. If you’re feeling hungry, we recommend calling at La Veccio Napoli. Order their truffle pizza with Parma ham. Or set off from Sliema in the late afternoon and end with dinner at one of St. Julian’s many restaurants in the most romantic bay in Malta.
Blue Lagoon, Comino
Take a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon. This is perhaps our most “touristy” tip, but it is a lovely boat trip and the lagoon really is a little piece of paradise. Next door to the island of Comino is the greener island of Gozo. Well worth a visit, or why not stay a few days and hire a fantastic farm house?
Da Pippo in Valetta
Da Pippo is Malta’s best lunchtime restaurant. You’ll need to set aside half a day to enjoy all the dishes on offer though. There is no set menu, but the lobster ravioli with Maltese white wine is a real treat. They have high ceilings here to accommodate lively conversation and big gestures.

Mdina
The silent city. Don’t miss one of the most historic places on Malta. Mdina is a medieval city (and the former capital) where time has stood still.
